“GPC Talks (#5): On Writing With and Through Images”:
Iris Blauensteiner and Viki Kühn discuss the manuscripts behind their latest works—the yet unpublished novel „Wildes Fleisch“ and the feature-length documentary debut “Mein halber Vater“. In resonance with the conversation, Adina Camhy composed a fantastic jingle as well as additional sound elements.

What cannot be represented through images, and which aspects can instead be conveyed only through words? What role does time play in the artistic working process, and how does it shape the perception of what becomes visible or narratable? Drawing on Blauensteiner’s yet unpublished novel "Wildes Fleisch“ and Viki Kühn’s feature-length documentary debut “Mein halber Vater“, the two discuss the personal manuscripts underpinning their artistic practices. They speak about the exploratory movements of writing with and through images and reflect—through key concepts such as screenplay, process, drive, intimacy, time, cinematic time, farewell, presence and absence, and desire—on the multifaceted conditions of their work. In resonance with the conversation, Adina Camhy composed a jingle and additional sound elements that sonically structure and accompany the piece.

Iris Blauensteiner

Iris Blauensteiner is a filmmaker and author. Since 2004, she has been creating films, including “Die Welt ist an ihren Rändern blau” (2021), “die_anderen_bilder” (2018), and “Rast” (2016), which have been presented at international festivals and in exhibition contexts. Her debut novel “Kopfzecke” was published in 2016, followed by “Atemhaut” (2022); she is currently working on her third novel, (provisionally) titled “Wildes Fleisch”. With a poetic-social realist sensibility, her work explores the ambivalences of human relationships and the interplay between digital and physical forms of communication.

Viki Kühn

Viki Kühn is a photographer and filmmaker. Her works have been shown at the Viennale, the Diagonale, the Max Ophüls Prize Film Festival, and the Wiener Festwochen, among others. She is currently developing her first feature-length documentary “Mein halber Vater”, while simultaneously pursuing research in the PhD in Art Practice program at the Hochschule für bildende Künste Hamburg. Her artistic practice centers on how cinematic and photographic media can open new pathways to addressing trauma, healing, and societal transformation.

Adina Camhy

Adina Camhy works interdisciplinarily as an artist, filmmaker, and musician. In her film and sound works, she combines research and remix methods. Her musical practice—situated between noise, ambient, drone, industrial, field recordings, and improvisation—feeds into performances, films, and radio pieces, and has been featured at festivals such as the Wiener Festwochen, Impulstanz, and the Berlinale. She performs both solo and in collaborations within Austria’s underground scene.
